The Equinox Institute LRP envisions using a ‘rules-light’ system where attendees are not expected to learn reams of rules to enjoy the event. Instead the game rules aim to:
- Provide a combat LARP system which is streamlined and high-risk with minimal damage calls;
- Set-up a simplified character creation system where characters need to only be aware of the subsections and their own specialisations;
- Establish that characters are experts in their area with limited universal abilities to increase threat and reward teamwork; and
- Encourage research and investigation prior to undertaking any combat in order to reduce the likelihood of character death.
The Universal Rules are divided into the following sub-sections below:
- Combat and Death – This section sets out the rules for melee and ranged combat, as well as the process by which your character can die at the event.
- Skills – Mechanics which allow you to interact with the game and other attendees.
- Conditions, Lammies and Envelopes – This section sets out the rules for various game mechanics:
- Conditions – Which represent mechanical and roleplay ways the story can affect your character;
- Show-Me Lammies – Allows characters to influence or learn more about other characters;
- Lammies – Represents usable items; and
- Envelopes – Impart additional information to players without needing a ref.
- Touchstones – A roleplay focussed mechanic which allows characters to resist crippling injuries or attempts to influence them by clinging to their bonds with other characters.
- Act Structure – The planned structure and pacing of events.
- Safety Calls – The Out-of-Character Calls which all attendees are expected to familiarise themselves with when attending our events.
